We here at MWIS hope you are settling into 2012 and looking forward to a year of more Mission activity.
In the meantime we just wanted to let you know that Hussey-Regan are releasing their first single, “Wichita Lineman” from ‘Curios’ on Monday 23rd January. Available as a bundle download for only £1.79 from the usual sources (see links below) the single is backed by Julianne & Wayne’s own inimitable reading of the Hank Williams songbook. The duo have covered two of Hank’s lesser known, and darker, songs – “The Angel Of Death” and “Alone & Forsaken”. And “The Angel Of Death” also features pedal steel guitar from Mission guitar tech, Chas Cole.
Wayne: “I’m a big Hank Williams fan and pretty much have everything ever released and more by him. We wanted to do a kind of tribute to Hank and chose these two particular songs because they are very dark and fitted in with our own concept of Hussey-Regan. I’m sure there will be some raised eyebrows when these tracks are heard!”
The bundled download available to buy and download from:

Anyway, to start off the year we can now confirm that The Mission will be visiting South America in May as part of their ongoing 25 year anniversary celebrations!

Dates confirmed so far are:

Thurs. 25th May: Teatro Coupolican, Santiago, Chile

Sat. 26th (Wayne’s birthday!): Teatro Colegiales, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Sun. 27th: Cine Joia, Sao Paulo, Brazil

There will also be a show in Rio De Janeiro on, we think, Thurs. 31st May and a show in Mexico City on Sat. 2nd June. More details to follow as we get them. Our agent is currently sunning himself on a beach somewhere, maybe Weston Super Mare, so extracting the info from him right now is proving difficult. But he’s back at work beginning of next week so we hope to have all the info for you at that time.We believe tickets are already on sale for the Buenos Aires show with Sao Paulo and Santiago going on sale very shortly.

The line-up for these shows will be as it was on the Euro tour of Oct-Nov just past – Craig Adams, Simon Hinkler, Wayne Hussey, & Mike Kelly.

We have also heard tale of at least one Euro festival appearance this summer by the band. Again, more details when we have them. Keep your eyes peeled.

Hi, on behalf of myself and The Mission and everyone here at MWIS I just wanted to wish you a very merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year. May all your Christmas recipes work and you feel no guilt for gorging yourself. And may the new year bring you happiness and good health for you and your family, and some more Mission shows.

Actually, we do hope to bring you confirmation very shortly of some Mission shows in South & Central America for May and even a festival appearance in the UK for June!
It ain’t been a bad year for me. Spent most of it at home which made a welcome change. The highlights being, of course, getting through The Mission tour (fave shows being Madrid and the last two German shows in Koln and Hamburg) without me driving either Simon or Craig crazy or them me, the release of the Hussey-Regan album ‘Curios’, and Luis Suarez signing for Liverpool.
We’ll have a bit more of all that in 2012 please before the end of the world on Dec. 21st!
Have a good one……
Cheers,
Wayne

Hussey-Regan to release ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ in benefit of LFC charity ‘Respect 4 All’

Monday 28th November sees the official release of the download only single release of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ by Hussey-Regan (Wayne Hussey of The Mission and Julianne Regan from All About Eve). All proceeds go to the Liverpool Football Club charity ‘Respect For All’. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/community/respect-4-all
You can watch the video for the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnGkuEyYZA4

If you’re in the UK you can text ‘track LFC’ to 8018 and you’ll receive a download code with which you can download the track. Texts only cost £1 which goes directly to the charity. And from Monday 28th it will also be available at all digital outlets.
This release is the brainchild of Tony McDonagh at Manila PR and it is just one in a series of singles all being released on the same day by musician supporters of various football clubs who have all recorded their team’s anthems. Other clubs involved include Chelsea, Manchester City, and Arsenal. All releases are for charities affiliated to their respective clubs. Let’s see if we, Liverpool, can beat them in the pop charts as well as on the playing field. It’s gonna be a race to see who can top this premier league!

Wayne Hussey is a life long Red and even penned the song ‘Draped In Red’ from the 2007 Mission album ‘God Is A Bullet’ celebrating Liverpool’s monumental and historic 2005 Champions League victory in Istanbul. Wayne lived and played in bands in Liverpool, including a 2 year stint in Dead Or Alive with a pre-cosmetic surgery Pete Burns, between 1977 and 1983 when he crossed the Penines for Leeds to join The Sisters Of Mercy. He still maintains a deep affection for the city and does try to get to Liverpool for a match every time he’s back in the country.
Anyway, we managed to persuade Wayne away from his hammock at his present day home in Brazil to say a few words regarding this release.
Wayne: “Well, it’s no secret that I’m a lifetime Red so this song is obviously very close to my heart. Most people when they hear this song can’t get past the football and LFC association. What people don’t, sadly, appreciate about this song is that it truly is a wonderfully written song. The lyrics are great and uplifting, the chord structure is sublime, and the melody is to die for. And the Kop always recognised a good tune. I’ve been playing it at home on the piano for years and always wanted an excuse to record it, so when the call came for a contribution to the cause I jumped at the chance. At long last I had a justifiable reason to record one of my all time fave songs, YNWA, which along with ‘God Only Knows’ by The Beach Boys are the two songs I want played at my funeral.

Of course there have already been many very different versions of the song over the years, some good and some not so with my own particular fave probably being Aretha Franklin’s version, but Julianne and I did try to do something a little different with it and I think we succeeded.
And of course I love the fact that it is for a local charity and will benefit disabled kids in Liverpool that want to participate in sports. I was at the recent home game with Wolves and at half time they had some of these kids come out onto the pitch and have a penalty shoot out at the Kop End and as well as entertaining, and amusing, the supporters you could see the obvious joy and delight on the kids faces from even right back on the Kop. And if Julianne and I can help, if only a little, then to see smiles on kids faces is more than worth it.”
Wayne goes on, ” My most favourite memory of my time as a musician is when we, The Mission, organised and played a benefit show at the Royal Court in Liverpool two weeks after the Hillsborough disaster. We managed to persuade Pete Wylie, and if you know Pete then you’ll know he actually didn’t need any persuading, and the legendary La’s to join us for the evening. Anyway, it was already obviously a very emotional night but when we were about half way through our set all the power in the building just cut out. No sound and no light. Pitch black. And spontaneously and with no coaxing the audience held up cigarette lighters and started singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. Of course to a man the band and crew started blubbering. A very emotional moment for me. It was at that moment that I realised that everybody in attendance that evening got it and knew why they were there. In tragic circumstances a brilliant memory.”

Walk on with hope in your heart!
You can watch the video for the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnGkuEyYZA4

Monday 28th November sees the official release of the download only single release of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ by Hussey-Regan. All proceeds go to the Liverpool Football Club charity ‘Respect For All’. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/community/respect-4-all

If you’re in the UK you can text ‘track LFC’ to 80818 and you’ll receive a download code with which you can download the track. Texts only cost £1 which goes to the charity. Come on, do your part and support a very worthwhile cause and let’s see if we can’t get our Wayne and Julianne back in the UK charts!!!!!! Now that would be something, wouldn’t it?

Anyway, we managed to persuade Wayne away from his hammock at home in Brazil to say a few words regarding this release.

Wayne: “Well, it’s no secret that I’m a life time Red and when I was asked if I could do a version of YNWA for this LFC nominated charity I, of course, jumped at the chance. It’s obviously a song that means a lot to me because of it’s long association with LFC but if you can get past the association and any prejudice you may have then it’s easy to hear that this song is really a wonderful song. It has a very uplifting lyric, with a chord sequence and melody to swoon for. Of course there have already been many very different versions of the song over the years but Julianne and I did try and do something a little different with it.

Anyway, I know we’ve asked you to put your hands in your pockets quite a lot over the last few months what with the Mission shows and the release of Curios etc but I am asking, personally, that you try and support this and help it to maybe even be a hit. I’d absolutely love to see our version of the song in the charts whilst supporting the kids in Liverpool that will benefit from the proceeds. Walk on with hope in your heart. Thanks.”

You can watch the video that Julianne put together for the song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnGkuEyYZA4

So, things are calming down around here again at MWIS after the activity of The Mission over the last couple of months. The lads are all now at their respective homes and enjoying a well deserved break. In the meantime we hope to have some news for you very soon about some more Mission shows for 2012.
Anyway, we just wanted to let you know that Hussey-Regan will be releasing a digital download only single on Monday 28th November. It’s their version of the Liverpool FC anthem ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ and is obviously a song that is close to Wayne’s heart. The video, that Julianne put together herself, is now available to view at http://youtu.be/vnGkuEyYZA4
All proceeds will go to the LFC nominated charity ‘Respect For All’. http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/community/respect-4-all
I’m sure we’ll be able to get Wayne to talk about this release (try and stop him!) over the next week or so but we do know he has just arrived back at home in Brazil and we promised not to bother him for at least a few days. Watch this space!

Also, we also wanted to let you know that Wayne recently contributed a vocal to the song ‘This House’ on the new Descendants Of Cain album. To hear the track go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfmfn5HWtSI

The album is called ‘Songs From A Vanishing World’ and it’s just been released by EchoZone/Sony. Proceeds from the sales of the album are being donated to the Wildlife Heritage Foundation. www.whf.org.uk
